In 1577, Mogilyov received Magdeburg Law, the symbols of which were the Town Hall and the coat of arms – “a brick tower, highly bred”. Then the wooden Town Hall was erected, and in a hundred years the Stone Town Hall. It was built by local architects: Afanas and Fez, bricklayers: Andrei, Vaska, Grishka, Ignat and Nedosek. By 1696, the 47-meter tower with the clock and weather vane was completed. By that time, the city had another coat of arms – a knight at the gates of a three-tower castle against the background of a blue shield. During World War II, the Town Hall was badly damaged and blew up after the war. The year 2008. “His symbol – the City Hall” was returned to Mogilev. This inscription is engraved on the clockwork of the tower, assembled by a local master watchmaker. Inside the Town Hall, where the city magistrate used to sit, the Museum of the History of Mogilev is located.
