Star Square
Star Square

Mogilev is a diverse city, and every visitor can note this. It has its own exclusive Zoo with unique inhabitants, a unique village, and even its own Hollywood !! Yes, yes, you heard right. Literally in 2004, residents of the city decided to recreate their own “Avenue of Stars”, but the stars here shine not from American films, but their own local honorary citizens of Mogilev. And most importantly, in this place you can feel even closer to the cosmic, real stars and planets. Your guide will be the Stargazer, honorably located in the center of the square and pointing the distant wanderer to the starry canvas.

Stargazer itself was the fruit of the mind of the Belarusian sculptor Vladimir Zhbanov. It was on his project that this grandiose sculpture was created: a sage sits on a high chair, and points a faraway wanderer at a stellar canvas, as if at some sort of truth. In such a place, you can really think about the Universe and something deeper than the routine weary of everyday life … It is interesting that a telescope costs one hand from Astronaut, but not simple! In the form of an arrow-pointer sundial – even here we see hints of amazing astronomy. The monument is surrounded by 12 chairs, and probably any horoscope lover or even a simple fortune-teller will assume that these are symbols of the zodiacal circle, and in fact it is so!

You can be even more interested in the fact that this sculpture has another feature: it is the only monument in the world to the Astrologer. Not seen anywhere else! But it is also one of the largest and most unique sundials in the world !! So – in one shot, two birds with one stone! Come to admire the Astrologer in Mogilyov, you will never find anything like this anywhere else!
