In 1941, the defense line of Mogilev passed near the village of Buinichi. Fighting against the German troops, the soldiers of the Red Army blocked the road Mogilev-Bobruisk. The front edge of the defense of the Soviet army was near the village of Buinichi. On July 10, the Germans subjected the 388 regiment to massive shelling, and 2 days later Soviet artillery opened fire on the enemy and inflicted heavy losses.

The Germans, launching an offensive, sent dozens of tanks to the positions of the Red Army. As a result of a long battle, it was possible to burn and destroy 39 enemy tanks. Until July 22, the Red Army steadfastly held its position.

The events that unfolded on the Buinichsky field were immortalized by Konstantin Simonov in his military diary and the novel “The Living and the Dead”. At that time he was a Izvestia correspondent and was on the battlefield on July 13 and 14. For Simonov, this trip to the front was the first.

Considering his participation in the battle on the Buinichsky field in 1941, the most important event in his life, Konstantin Simonov bequeathed to dispel his dust over the battlefield. This was done after the death of the writer, and a memorable sign was installed on the field.

Simonov wrote: “… I was not a soldier, I was only a correspondent, but I have a piece of land that I cannot forget for ages, a field near Mogilyov, where for the first time in July 1941 I saw our people for one day knocked down and burned 39 German tanks … “. To perpetuate the feat of the Red Army, in Buynichsky field created a memorial complex, which is located on an area of 22 hectares. The author of the project was the architect V. Chalenko. The memorial “Buynichskoe field” was opened in 1995, and in 2002 the memorial was recognized as the cultural value of Belarus.

At the entrance there is an arch, on the edges of which bas-reliefs are installed. They depict the defense scheme of Mogilev, pictures of battles with quotations and the text of the order awarding Mogilyov with the Order of the Patriotic War, I degree.

The center of the memorial is a chapel in memory of fallen soldiers. Inside it is faced with white marble. On the walls are memorial plaques with the names of hundreds of militia and warriors who gave their lives to save Mogilev. For the reburial of the remains of the soldiers created a crypt, which is located under the chapel.

The Lake of Tears is also a symbolic “monument” on the Buinichsky field, near which locals like to walk. This is an artificial reservoir, which symbolizes the mother’s tears about the dead sons.
