At the end of November 2019, the implementation of the international youth project of the Smolensk diocese on the development of thematic cultural and educational tourism “Pearl Necklace of Holy Russia”: on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory ”began.” The project won the second 2019 Presidential Grants Competition and is being implemented with the support of the Federal State Fund.
In December, the project will host installation meetings of the Smolensk and Belarusian groups of the international student project team, as well as an international youth conference in the city of Vitebsk.
On December 5, a working meeting of the Smolensk group of the international student project team took place in the conference room of the Smolensk diocese. The meeting was attended by students of five Smolensk universities: SmolSU, SSMU, SF MPEI, SPDA and SGII, as well as students from the Smolensk Pedagogical College. The meeting was attended by over 35 students: these are the guys who already in the previous year worked in the project “Pearl Necklace of Holy Russia”, and new participants.
The project manager, the head of the Department of the Smolensk diocese for church-society relations with the media, Archpriest Valery Ryabokon greeted the newly joined participants and spoke about the nature and goals of the project, as well as plans for the project in the coming year.
The meeting discussed issues related to the upcoming events of the project, one of which will be the opening of the cinema club, which will be held on December 19 at the New Martyrs and Confessors Church of the Russian city of Smolensk. At the first film screening, team members will watch and discuss the film “Ordinary Fascism”. The film screening will be moderated by the project’s scientific curator, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor of the department of general history of Smolensk State University Demyan Valerievich Valuev and archpriest Valery Ryabokon.
Also, as part of the meeting, the project team discussed the draft of a new emblem and a list of songs on the theme of the Great Patriotic War, which the guys plan to learn and then perform on their trips.
At the end of the meeting, students filled out questionnaires for project participants, and also answered questions of a blitz test on the history of the Great Patriotic War, including the history of the war in Smolensk.
