The meeting of the team of the project “Pearl Necklace of Holy Russia” took place following the results of the trips to the cities of the project

On June 19, 2019, a meeting took place of the participants of the Smolensk diocese's international project for the development of youth cultural tourism “Pearl Necklace of Holy Russia.”

The meeting was attended by Metropolitan of Smolensk and Dorogobuzhsky Isidore; Member of the Federation Council of the legislative power of the Smolensk region, deputy chairman of the All-Russian public organization Russian Union of Young Scientists Sergey D. Leonov; project leader, rector of the Church of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church, head of the Smolensk Diocese Department of Relations with Society and the Media, Archpriest Valery Ryabokon; Counselor of the Smolensk State University Maxim Kail, project curator for the Smolensk diocese, deputy head of the Smolensk diocese for church relations with society and the media Maria Zhukova, Denis Artemenko, the operator of the diocesan television studio “Saint Mercury”, the project participants are students of Smolensk universities.

The working meeting was devoted to summing up the interim results of the project. It was held in the form of a free discussion: curators and volunteers talked about their experience in the project.

The guys sincerely shared their impressions and discoveries: while preparing presentation clips on the history of the cities of “Pearl Necklace”, many tried themselves as television anchors, journalists, photographers. Students of secular universities noted how the attitude towards the Smolensk family changed in the process of work. Temples, monuments of architecture, other sights used to be part of the familiar landscape, and now each of them has a living history, people, their faith, their cultural traditions, their Christian feat. In addition, in each city, visited by young people, working on the project, they found new friends and like-minded people.

Sergey Dmitriyevich Leonov praised the work of the team of the tourist project “Pearl Necklace of Holy Russia” and promised to help more people learn about this project and more young people would have the opportunity not to stay away from interesting and important business .

University professors thanked the organizers for the opportunity to take part in the project, because it gave a lot to each of them. Both volunteers and curators today represent a cohesive team, within which an idea has emerged to continue work on the development of youth tourism.

Maria Sergeyevna Zhukova told about the new project, which will be timed to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. A visit to the iconic cities of military glory, the development of historical and tourist cases related to the military history of cities, including Smolensk and Vitebsk, a trip to Minsk, Khatyn, participation in the action “Candle of Memory” in the city of Brest, the creation of a student mini-film dedicated to the memory of the military years - these are just some of the ideas that will be implemented in the framework of the new project.

Metropolitan Isidore supported this good undertaking associated with the preservation of historical memory and the education of the young generation. The archpastor also invited students and teachers on June 22, the day of memory and grief, to attend the night service, which will be held at the Cathedral of the Annunciation on Cathedral Hill.

The meeting ended with a viewing video clip of the city of Polotsk, one of the cities of the “Pearl Necklace of Holy Russia.”
