April 9, 2019, the participants of the international project "Pearl Necklace of Holy Russia" traveled to the city of Polotsk - this is the second trip of the project team to the Republic of Belarus.
The trip was led by the project manager, the head of the Department of Smolensk Diocese on Church Relations with Society and the Media, the prior of the Parish of the Church of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church, Archpriest Valery Ryabokon. 12 students from all universities participating in the project, as well as the project curator from the Smolensk diocese Maria Zhukova, specialized curators from universities: priest Dmitry Gamilovsky, Elena Mertens, Irina Romanova and Larisa Pavlova, photo cameraman Denis Artemenko.
The partners in the organization of the trip were the Head Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Polotsk State University and the Polotsk Savior-Euphrosyne Stavropegic Convent.
The trip to Polotsk is organized within the framework of the development of the tourist case of this ancient city of Belarus. The trip was preceded by extensive preparatory work. Students of the Smolensk State Institute of Arts prepared a draft of the route, prepared a list of objects to visit, selected the most interesting sights of the city, which will be presented in the presentation video about Polotsk, prepared scenarios for video shooting. A group of students participating in the trip prepared a project presentation for students of Polotsk State University.
During the trip, the participants got acquainted with the main cultural and historical sites of the city, including visiting the ancient Spaso-Evfrosinievsky monastery. During the city tour, the project participants visited the Sofia and Epiphany Cathedrals, the Museum of Belarusian Printing, the Church of St. Andrew Baboli, the monuments to Simeon of Polotsk, the heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812, Francis Skaryna.
Before the presentation of the project in Polotsk State University, Smolensk met with the history and sights of the oldest university of the Republic of Belarus, located in the complex of buildings of the former Jesuit College. By tradition, the presentation of the project was carried out by Smolensk students. The meeting was moderated by Evgeny Khramtsov. Olga Morozova, Evgenia Orlovskaya, Yana Kamyanskaya, Sofia Pushenkova, Ilya Losev and Elizaveta Kuznetsova told about their participation in the project. Andrei Pokatov spoke about the project site and demonstrated its capabilities, including the version of the site for mobile devices. Students from Polotsk State University also saw the presentation video of Smolensk, included in the tourist case of the city. At the end of the presentation held a tea party.
The results of the trip to Polotsk will be announced on April 17, 2019 at the general meeting of the project participants.
